Getting What Matters Most Tip#2
Get Your Heart Involved
“There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it.” — Napoleon Hill
We’re talking passion here, and passion comes from the heart. Chances are you will only succeed with this work if your goals really matter to you.
For goals with meaning, we need to go to our hearts. Our heads tend to tell us to do what we’ve always done, what we think we SHOULD do or what other people want and expect us to do. Instead, we need to find out what we really WANT to be doing with our lives.
How do you listen to your heart? Give yourself space, time, peace and quiet. Ask your heart a question. Cultivate a willingness to be open and to listen for feedback.
Your heart’s desires may come in different forms at different times. The answers will be what you WANT to do, not necessarily what you think you should do. If there’s no excitement for you around the goal, it’s not coming from the heart. Go for more.
Take a few minutes right now, take a few deep breaths and ask your heart, “In the highest divine interest of all concerned, what can I do in the next few years that will offer me great meaning and fulfillment?” Keep asking this question for a few days. Be open-minded and write down whatever ideas come to mind.
“If a person sweeps streets for a living, he should sweep them as Michelangelo painted, as Beethoven composed, as Shakespeare wrote.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.
