Different is Good: Your Unique Selling Position
Different is Good: Your Unique Selling Position
Your business networking introduction is your chance to spark your audience’s interest in what you’re offering. It’s your moment in the spotlight when you can show them why you’re the go-to person, the one who’s a better pick than the competition. It’s your opportunity to give them a reason to remember your name when they walk out the door.
In this age of information overload, blending in with the crowd is not an option if you want to grow your business. Even if you don’t have many (or any) direct competitors, you have to give people a reason to become your customers. After all, if they’ve made it this far without your business, why should they give you a try?
Your Unique Selling Position (USP) is the part of your introduction where you get to answer your audience’s unspoken question: Why should we buy from you?
If you’re not sure how to answer that question, see if any of these USP boosters apply to you:
- Credibility. Professional or academic credentials, a long history doing business, pioneering achievements, and high profile testimonials can set you apart as a gold standard business.
- Value. Promotional offers such as discounts, freebies, and two-for-one offerings are always popular. People love bargains!
- Timing. Promotional offers such as a discount for anyone who does business with you within a specified timeframe can pique interest.
- Quality. Products made from rare or high quality materials can set you apart from businesses that produce lower grade products. Service based business can offer conditional guarantees to ensure customer satisfaction. For example, offering a refund if a deadline is not met.
Like all consumers, your fellow networkers have a lot of options available to them. Use your USP to show that your business has an extra bit of “oomph” that’ll make them glad they chose you.
